FRITZ BRUN (1878-1959): String Quartet No. 1, Violin Sonata No. 1.
Catalogue Number: 12X010
Label: Prospero Classical
Description: Aside from the nine symphonies, the only other Brun release we’ve offered was a Musiques Suisses CD coupling his String Quartet No. 3 with a quartet by Volkmar Andreae so this is a welcome new release from a Swiss label new to us. No booklet or audio files were available for sampling, so we leave you with the label’s sales note: “The beautiful String Quartet, written in Cologne in 1901 and full of longing, speaks of the beauty of his Swiss homeland, and the highly passionate First Violin Sonata, written a few years later in Bern. The string quartet has not been recorded at all until now. And the violin sonata only in a shortened and "lightened" version. The musical "impositions" and enormous technical challenges of the work can thus be fully experienced for the first time.” Manuel Quartett, Stefan Meier (violin), Alexander Ruef (piano).
