Description: The rarities are Roussel’s 1925 and the French-Canadian Prévost’s 1960 sonatas which are rather like each other - stamped by rhythmic energy in their outer movements and with tense slow movements, Prévost’s for violin only until an emphatic piano punctuation, sonorous and reverberating, closes it. Freely tonal, Prévost’s probably sounded less avant-garde to early 60s audiences than Roussel’s harmonically adventurous sonata did to listeners of its own time. Hélène Collerette (violin), Anne Le Bozec (piano).
