Description: Tyberg's masses, from 1934 and 1941, are of late-Romantic structure and harmonic composition resembling other masters like Mahler and Bruckner, and their symphonic breadth encompasses a vast range of human emotion. From the intimate iterations of the Sanctus in both Mass settings, to the roaring organ solo in the that of the Messe di fascile, to the painfully beautiful soprano solo in the Agnus Dei of the mass in G, this is a valuable extension of our limited knowledge of this Viennese late Romantic whose orchestral music has been recorded by Naxos wtih the Buffalo Philharmonic. Christopher Jacobson (organ), South Dakota Chorale; Brian A. Schmidt.
