NAPOLÉON-HENRI REBER (1807-1880): Piano Trios No. 2 in E Flat, Op. 12 (First Recording), No. 4 in D, Op. 25 “Sérénade” and No. 6 in E, Op. 34.
Catalogue Number: 12S004
Description: Many of Reber's colleagues saw him as a shy, somewhat timid, naïve gentleman who had been forgotten by the 18th century and didn't belong in his own time. His music gives credence to that view, especially these piano trios, which date from 1840, 1864 and 1876. The basis is Schubert, Mendelssohn and Onslow and, like Gouvy or, especially, Raff, Reber has the gift of being able to consistently write lovely, lyrical music - a guaranteed tonic for these bizarre 21st-century times. Trio Élégiaque.
