Catalogue Number: 12P060
Description: The Haiku of 1950-51 are just what they say they are: 5+7+5 "sound events" which last less than a minute each. From the same period, the Dances as recorded here originate from a manuscript for solo piano which may have been used at rehearsals for the 50-minute dance piece by Merce Cunningham who provided Cage with the choreography and left the composer to provide the music. Detailed notes by Zimmerman are included. Jovita Zähl (piano), Thomas Meixner (percussion in alternate versions of Dances XV & XVI).
