WILHELM STENHAMMAR (1871-1927): Piano Concertos No. 1 in B Flat Minor, Op. 1 and No. 2 in D Minor, Op. 23.
Catalogue Number: 12N051
Description: First budget-priced version, so we offer it for Stenhammar completists! The first concerto of 1893 is a huge, four-movement work of 45 minutes, Brahmsian in its opening theme and key relationships, with a hint of Saint-Saëns in its brief, light-footed scherzo but which then turns Nordic in its final two movements. Only the second recording of the original version (only discovered in the 1980s) and apparently only the second recording of No. 2 also - a much more concise four-movement work of about half an hour from 1907 which is in the composer's mature style. Niklas Sivelöv (piano), Malmö Symphony Orchestra; Mario Venzago.
