Description: Yes, there are fine examples of polite, salon-style pieces here and the little, four-minute Inspiration might gently fog the glass a little, but the big reason for buying this is the rather amazing tone-poem Santa Caterina, a 27-minute work in seven sections whose titles tell you all you need to know (even in Italian without translation: "Introduzione", "I Primi Fervori", "Le Stimmate" [these stigmata are seemingly intense but not terribly painful], "Le Tribolazioni", "L'Estasi Mistica", "La Morte" and "L'Assunzione"). This is gorgeous, emotional late Romanticism written in late 1924 just months before Bossi's death. Apparently, he intended a version for more instruments, including organ (why not a full orchestra?) and his son Renzo did one with accompaniment of string quartet, harp, celesta, organ and tam-tam (?!) but we're never likely to hear that one, so this is it, late Romantic violin collectors! Roberto Noferini (violin), Andrea Noferini (cello), Giulio Giurato (piano).
