Description: Rare repertoire from the early 18th century for the viola d'amore or, as here, two of them. One piece is played on metal strings (a gut high string with one each of iron and brass and three lower strings of copper) as was not uncommon in certain instances while the rest use gut. The inimitable resonance of the sympathetic strings is unmistakeable and the variety of music in what amounts to suites of dances makes full use of these gorgeous instruments. Anne Schumann, Klaus Voigt (violas d'amore), Alison McGillivray (cello), Petra Burmann (theorbo, baroque guitar), Sebastian Knebel (harpsichord).
