FELIX MENDELSSOHN (1809-1847): Piano Trio in D Minor, Op. 49, Piano Sextet in D, Op. 110.
Catalogue Number: 12I042
Label: Musica Omnia
Description: The posthumous opus number given to the sextet disguises the fact that Mendelssohn wrote it in 1824. Thus, it's a product of the period of his string symphonies and its 32 minutes are full of easy, flowing melody with the piano dominating, concerto-like, through the low textures of the two violas, cello and double bass. We offer this new release since it's on period instruments (Jaap Schröder is the leader of the group), unlike other available recordings of the work. The Atlantis Trio with Peter Bucknell, Daniel Foster (violas), Anne Trout (double bass).
