GEORGES MIGOT (1891-1976): Le Zodiaque - 12 études de concert, Prélude, Salut et Danse, 2 pièces.
Catalogue Number: 12I012
Reference: ACD2 2381
Description: Migot's lack of interest in joining any of the contemporary groups of musicians earned him the nickname "Group of One". His most important influences were medieval polyphony, 17th-century French luthenists, Rameau and Debussy and it's the last two which will be most obvious in this astrologically-inspired cycle (1931-02) of short pieces of jewel-like precision and clarity which, while disdaining overt displays of virtuosity, still offer very original pianistic features. They, and the two other, earlier works here (1927 and 1912 respectively), show Migot's essential features of lyricism, simultaneously working melodic lines and harmonic ambiguity. 2 CDs. Stéphane Lemelin (piano).
