Description: Schumann’s tribute to this French composer born in London is a blast: “No matter how one might try, one cannot be unkind to Mr. Bertini: he can bring one beside oneself with his friendliness and all his finely fragrant Parisian expressions; his music has the feel of pure satin and silk.” And his music is made to please: no sharp edges, no pointless virtuosity, everything tasteful and finely crafted as are these two works from the late 1830s (don’t let the opus numbers fool you). Really attractive and conservative stuff and, the booklet notes tell us, there’s plenty more where this came from. Linos Ensemble.
