JEAN SIBELIUS (1865-1957): Scaramouche, Op. 71.
Catalogue Number: 11R045
Description: Completed in 1913 but not performed until nine years later, this is Sibelius’ only continuous dramatic score after his 1896 opera The Maiden in the Tower. Written for a pantomime whose subject is the eponymous sinister, hunchbacked dwarf, it lasts over an hour (71 minutes in Segerstam time) and was praised by a Danish critic at its premiere for its resourcefulness, devilry and strange perversity. Turku Philharmonic Orchestra; Leif Segerstam.
