IGNAZ RITTER VON SEYFRIED (1776-1841): Missa solemnis in B Minor, Veni Sancte Spiritus, Assumpta est Maria, Ave Maria.
Catalogue Number: 11R029
Description: Student of Mozart for a brief period, friend of Beethoven (and conductor of the premiere of the original version of Fidelio) and member of Schubert’s circle of friends, Seyfried was also a pretty prolific composer although this conservative, unshowy mass from 1830, written for the first mass to be celebrated by his son, a Benedictine monk at Melk monastery, may not be the best yardstick by which to judge him. But, as the only recording out there by Seyfried, it’s also the only yardstick. Justyna Stępień (soprano), Ewa Mikulska (alto), Krzysztof Machowski (tenor), Krzysztof Matuszak (bass), Archdiocesan Choir “Magnificat” of Przemyśl, Choir of the Music Department of Rzeszów University, Artur Malawsky Philharmonic Orchestra in Rzeszów; Fr Mieczysław Gniady.
