Description: And, here, Kabalevsky for adults in a concert hall. And a real surprise if you only know the mature Kabalevsky: the Preludes of 1925 are right in the late Scriabin sound-world, an example of pre-Sovietization. The program proceeds chronologically with pieces from the pair of Variations from 1944 to the Lyric Tunes of 1971/72, all of which are recognizably mature Kabalevsky even when they don't have elements of Russian folk music or Orthodox chant, as in the Spring Games and Recitative. Kirsten Johnson (piano).
