Description: This collection of 20th century Hungarian piano works brings us the much lesser-known "Splinters" (1978) from Kurtág, a withdrawn guitar piece adapted for cimbalom and then transcribed for piano) (tons of Játekók out there but no other current recording of the piano version of Szálkák). You'll be familiar with Kodály, Bartók and Lajtha, of course. Jeney's Ricercare (1992) is a strict four-art canon by retrograde which unfolds without any changes in dynamic or tempo and his Rimbaud (1975) is a monody of 25 different pitches which are gradually erased one by one with increasing periods of silence until silence is all that's left. Csapo's 1986 piece is a series of fragments which the performer is allowed much freedom to choose, dynamics, tempo and the clefs in which to perform them. Mariann Marczi (piano).
