HELMUT WALCHA (1902-1991): Chorale Preludes, Vol. 1 - Nos. 1-25.

Description: Walcha, the great German organist who made so many Bach recordings for DG's Archiv label, started composing his Corale Preludes during World War II, publishing the 25 recorded here in 1954. Three more volumes will follow. Both popular teaching pieces and ideal vehicles for expressing the color and clarity of the old and new baroque-style organs which Walcha preferred, they expand and enrich the Lutheran chorale prelude tradition in the spirit (if not the actual style) of Bach.
