Description: This disc is to remind us that once, it was only Foulds' "light music" which got played. Now, only his serious music gets recorded but there is a very fine line between "light" and "serious" in some of these pieces, as in Isles of Greece (1927) which is more like a brief tone-poem or An Arabian Night (1937), one of a series of pieces called Nature-Notes which Foulds composed during the last part of his life when he was in India. Most like the traditional concept of "light music" is the 1908 Holiday Sketches (brief, colorful depictions of vacation spots in Germany) and the two Keltic pieces which are full-throated, large-orchestra works blazing with color and heart-on-sleeve melodies while the suite is from the incidental music to a 1924 play.
