Description: Widely regarded as one of Poland's most important living composers by the end of World War II, Palester's name and compositions were stricken from the records when, refusing to knuckle under to Communist Party demands to compose in Socialist Realism, he spent 20 years living and composing in Munich. He'd spent some time studying in Paris in the 30s and his Serenade and Petite sérénade (both from 1946-7) have some elements of pre-war neo-classicism. The string trio, however, coming from 1958, is serial (and that never would have been allowed in Poland). Kletzki's trio is in the same neo-classical vein as Palester's earlier two works although, unhelpfully, no date is given for its composition (but Kletzki stopped composing in 1942). Pierre-Yves Artaud (flute), Ewa Murawska (second flute), Blanka Bednarz (violin), Marcin Murawski (viola), Sinfonietta Polonia; Cheung Chau (cello).
