Description: It's amazing how many concerto-type works Penderecki has poured out during his late, neo-romantic phase and here are two more: the Concerto grosso is from 2000 and makes full use of the interplay both among the three soloists and among larger and small orchestral groups in its 35-minute single-movement course, while the misleadingly-titled Largo of 2003 is a 27-minute full-scale concerto in three sections (like the Concerto grosso in a single movement) which inhabits a nocturnal world of pain, regret and anger. The "Sonata" is an avant-garde work from 1964, not as "sonoristic" as the Hiroshima Threnody, but along the same lines. Warsaw National Philharmonic Orchestra; Antoni Wit.
