LOUIS-CLAUDE DAQUIN (1694-1772): Nouveau livre de Noëls.
Catalogue Number: 11J026
Reference: CDH 55319
Description: Acclaimed by Rameau as the greatest improviser of his day, Daquin's surviving œuvre consists only of a book of harpsichord suites and this collection of Noëls, from about 1740. Less concerned with structure or form than with pictorial immediacy and virtuosity for its own sake, many of these pieces employ a cumulative variation technique which gets faster and more virtuosic as the Noël progresses. The organ is a rare surviving example of the French Classical model and is roughly contemporaneous with Daquin's composition. Christopher Herrick (organ of St. Rémy, Dieppe). Original 1995 Hyperion release.
