Description: You all will remember the Bronsart recording by Michael Ponti for Turnabout back in 1972 which was reissued on CD in the VoxBox Romantic Piano Concerto series in 1992. An unabashedly virtuoso tour-de-force for the soloist, it storms the heights, lays on thick spreads of Brahmsian tone, quotes Die Meistersinger in its first movement and goes all Hungarian allegro con fuoco in the finale. Published in 1873, it was dedicated to his wife, a formidable pianist and composer of operas which werer produced around Germany as late as 1909.
