Description: Unlike the Technicolor Spanishisms of Lalo's celebrated showpiece, the Iberian folk influences in Manén’s 1898 concerto (rev.c.1935) are more subtle and more authentic, the sardana being just one example of the less familiar dance-types the composer makes use of. Although tonal throughout, Manen makes much use of chromaticism to give the music a unique flavor and his harmonization of the melodies is much more individual than Lalo and other non-Spanish composers could offer.
