Description: Englund has kind of been erased lately by his younger Finnish compatriot Rautavaara so it’s good to see Ondine, which gave us four orchestral discs of symphonies and concertos between 1990 and 2003, come back to him with this 29-minute work from 1983 when shades of nostalgia and lyricism added a romantic touch to his characteristic neo-classical style. Stylistically, Klami’s concerto (only other recording on BIS 19 years ago), written in 1943, lost and rewritten in 1953-54, is a close fit with the Englund.
