Description: The latest Reznicek release from this label brings 68 minutes of predominantly cheery, uptempo material, often redolent of Richard Strauss in his Eulenspiegel and Heldenleben mood, ingeniously orchestrated and catchily melodious - the Goldpirol is a golden oriole, its song provides the main motif and the 11-minute overture really is “idyllic”; Reznicek’s Till piece is a 14-minute interlude between Acts Two and Three of his 1900 Eulenspiegel opera. The main work is the 1918 Konzertstück which slipped into obscurity when, for some reason dissatisfied with it, the composer took its slow movement and composed two new movements to frame it and it became his Violin Concerto in E Minor. The bright, silvery thread of melody the soloist spins is enchanting and the finale has an earworm of a Scottish dance-like theme. Sophie Jaffé (violin), Berlin Radio Symphony; Marcus Bosch.
