Description: A budget-priced bargain set with 32 minutes of first recordings and a couple of others not likely to be in too many people’s LP collections. Note that the Op. 10 and Op. 18 pieces are the same recordings which appeared four years ago on a Gramola disc which also contained music by Constantinescu and Silvestri. The biggest piece is the 19-minute sonata fragment of 1912, only discovered in 1993, which turns out to be the original version of the first movement of the Op. 24/1 sonata but in late romantic garb instead of the later works folk spirit, modal tonality and other structural reconfigurations; while the Sonata inhabits the world of the opera Œdipe, the fragment is close to the Symphony No. 2. 3 CDs. Raluca Stirbat (piano).
