Description: Respighi’s 25-minute Lauda, his only sacred work, dates from 1930, the period of the operas Maria Egiziaca and La Fiamma and the orchestral Metamorphoseon, so it rather stands out since it’s basically an 18th century Czech pastoral cantata with some Impressionistic and neo-Romantic colors mixed in. The wind instruments and stretches of 9/8 rhythms underline the innocent, pastoral effect. Really pretty stuff and very rare! Italian, German, Latin-English texts. Yeree Suh (soprano), Kristine Larissa Funkhauser (mezzo), Krystian Adam (bass), Berlin Radio Choir, Polyphonia Ensemble Berlin; Nicolas Fink, Maris Sirmais (Respighi)
