NIKOLAI MEDTNER (1880-1951): Complete Piano Sonatas, Vol. 1 - No. 1 in F Minor, Op. 5, Sonata-Reminiscenza in A Minor, Op. 38/1, Sonatina in G Minor.

Description: We offer this since there is no other recording currently available of the early, two-movement Sonatina from 1898, a rather Tchaikovskian piece but with signs of the Medtner to come. The piano is a Steinway used by the composer himself in a 1929 Montréal recital. Not certain whether we need another complete sonata cycle, sales of this disc will determine whether subsequent volumes are offered. Paul Stewart (piano).
