Description: Misek was Bohemian-born and spent 24 years as bassist in the Vienna Philharmonic and the last 14 years of his career back home the the orchestral of the Prague National Theatre. His first sonata (1909) has only three movements and is light and Mendelssohnian in character whereas his second from 1911 adds a furiant-derived scherzo as a fourth movement. Markedly more serious than its predecessor, there are Brahmsian tones in its first movement and an expressive and passionate slow movement. Szymon Marciniak (double bass), Joanna Lawrynowicz (piano).
