Description: While there are six (count 'em, SIX) other recordings of both symphonies and almost as many of the Rhapsodies, this may be the CD premiere of the 1870 cello concerto. In a single movement in which the third section is the recapitulation of the first section with a slower intermezzo in between - an obvious experiment inspired by Liszt's second piano concerto - it is almost completely non-virtuosic, retailing instead a lovely, lyrical form of "endless melody". A 1974 recording appeared on an NKF LP coupled with the violin concerto of the previous year but while the latter did come out on an NKF CD, the cello concerto didn't. So, apparently a true CD rarity! Truls Mørk (cello), Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra; Neeme Järvi.
