Description: Predominantly groups of short pieces, these are generally dark-hued, sometimes lyrical, sometimes gritty, now-and-then jazz influenced works which sometimes paint a psychological picture, sometimes react to non-musical images and sometimes are inspired by other art forms (like the Line Drawings of Saul Steinberg. The longest, Thin Ice (at ten minutes), has an uneasy undercurrent of danger and anxiety. Tonal if not always melodic, they fall easily within the "approachable 20th century" sub-category of modern music. Mirian Conti (piano).
