Description: It's been a while since Vol. 4 (Feb. 2009); here we're back to Strauss' beloved soprano voice, featuing a new American singer in her first recording. The major work is the Op. 68 set of Brentano lieder from 1918, known (and sometimes avoided) for its long final song Lied der Frauen, which requires a much heavier and stronger voice than almost anything else on this disc, much less in Op. 68. The remaining works date from 1886-1900 with the earliest, the Mädchenblumen, which compare women to types of flower, among the more neglected songs in Strauss' œuvre. German-English texts. Kiera Duffy (soprano), Roger Vignoles (piano).
