Description: Saint-Saëns was among the earlier subscribers to the monumental Bach Edition published in Leipzig throughout the second half of the 19th century and his enthusiasm is on display in his piano transcriptions which, unlike those of many other composers, concentrated on the cantatas and the works for solo violin. His transcriptions are characterized by their minimum of intervention, as opposed to the often thick-textured and Romantically rich sonorities of Saint-Saëns' friend, the pianist Isidore Philipp. Nadejda Vlaeva (piano).
