Description: The penultimate volume of this series, containing one of Weinberg's earliest surviving works (although he revised it in 1985, he left its form and harmony intact): the 1937 Op. 2, written in Warsaw, whose over-heated chromaticism and dense contapuntal and polyrhythmic workings are most like Szymanowski's and Bartók's first two quartets. The Third (1944) is also wiry and intense and the Tenth (1964, when he and Shostakovich were in their string quartet race) is on the threshold of his late, elliptical style. Two short pieces from his wartime exile in Tashkent fill out the disc. Quatuor Danel.
