Description: Published in Germany in 1889, three years after Herbert left for the New World, the five-movement Serenade, with a very warm Liebes-Scene at its center, would happily stand aside similar works in the genre by Karlowicz, Elgar, Suk and Tchaikovsky if it ever got played regularly. The 3 Pieces (Air de Ballet, Forget-me-not and Sunset), from 1912, and the seven arranged pieces for cello and orchestra (four of which were originally piano pieces and the other three for cello and piano) are of the light, salon style which provided Herbert with royalties beyond those of his popular operettas. Maximilian Hornung (cello), Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim; Sebastian Tewinkel.
