Description: As we told you back in November of 2004 for his disc of string quartets (11G029), "Born in Austria, this composer finished his life writing sacred music in the Hungarian city of Pecs". Here is one of the 27 masses he wrote there during his 36-year residence (the monumental D minor, from 1823, with its huge orchestra including double winds and horns with some thrilling trumpet entries) and another which was discovered in 1948 and once to be an early mass by Mozart. It's notable for its virtuosic organ solos and resourceful use of winds. Mária Zádori, Eszter Wierdl, Zita Váradi (sopranos), Katalin Halmai (mezzo), Lúcia Megyesi-Schwartz (alto), Zoltán Megyesi (tenor), Krisztián Cser (bass), Purcell Choir, Erdödy Chamber Orchestra; György Vashegyi.
