MICHAEL HARRISON (b. 1950s?): Revelation.

Description: Tuning a piano in other than equal temperament and then meditating on the results at length will forever be associated most strongly with LaMonte Young (who gets name-checked here and there on this CD), so if you're into all that, Harrison's work will undoubtedly appeal to you. Intervals, rippling figuration and scales are presented with ample opportunity provided for the overtones to build up for contemplation. Overall, the music projects an improvisatory, meditative atmosphere, consonant and eschewing conflict, apart, that is, from the unexpected clashes produced by intervals not being what we have largely come to expect them to be in piano music. Not everything is slow and quiet; some more energetic sections build up layers of sound, with evocations of bells or a kind of new-age landscape painting. Michael Harrison (piano).
