Description: Oswald's 30-minute concerto from 1886, here getting its second recording on CD, has a Tchaikovskian athleticism and virtuosity to its keyboard writing, the orchestration rich and full, the overall character rather late German Romantic in the first movement, with a sentimental Adagio and a tarantella finale (his mother was Italian). Modelled on Grieg’s Suite from Holberg’s Time, Nepomuceno’s 13-minute Suite Antiga combines Baroque style and Romantic attitude with a bewitching savoir faire. Clélia Iruzun (piano), Royal Philharmonic Orchestra; Jac van Steen.
