Description: Müller's enigmatic little songs set re-invented creation myths by Tim Krohn in sung passages of some acrobatic virtuosity and recitation, giing the impression of an early 20th century, very late-romantic, rather expressionistic but still basically tonal music-theatre piece, with delicious, subtle Klangfarben scene-setting accompaniments and postludes from the ensemble. Kirchner's 'Exile', for the same ensemble as Messiaen's masterwork, examines an humanitarian theme of isolation and emigration in five succinct movements of penetrating emotional expressiveness in a tonality-based vocabulary. Idioms from displaced cultures - black America, Klezmer music - are eloquently integrated into the argument. No texts. Christiane Boesiger (soprano), Zurich Ensemble.
