Description: The only other modern recording of the 1899-1900 Stenhammar sonata is almost 20 years old now so we felt we should offer this new one from the renowned Latvian violinist. Remarkable for the amount of time the violin spends in high passages it sounds to this listener like a three-movement, 20-minute ode to the clarity and brightness of Nordic spring with the final movement seeming to brust out in quivering, ecstatic rapture.
