Description: Composed at a time when Polish was forbidden to be spoken by the Czar, Moniuszko's songs, to be performed in home settings by upper middle and upper class members of society, formed a means, through their employment of Polish folk elements, of conveying a nationalist ideology to large numbers of the Polish intelligentsia. At least 12 of these songs were not included on either of the two most recent Moniuszko discs we've offered (04L059 and 02J052). Polish-English texts. Jadwiga Rappé (alto), Maja Nosowska (piano).
