ROBERT SCHUMANN (1810-1856): Der Rose Pilgerfahrt, Op. 112.
Catalogue Number: 09M041
Description: This is very rare Schumann (only two other recordings available, the latest from 15 years ago). Combining aspects of the choral ballad, oratorio, song cycle and opera, it was an 1851 attempt by the composer to mix lyricism and drama to create a new dramatic genre. In 24 numbers, it plays like a lieder cycle, with solo voice, solo voices and chorus and chorus alone telling a slightly naive, charming, lyrical story or, as Schumann put it, "a very charming fairy-tale idyll". German-English texts. Christoph Prégardien (tenor), Anna Lucia Richter (soprano), Michael Dahmen (bass), Michael Gees (piano), South German Chamber Choir; Gerhard Jenemann.
