Description: Given the existence of Serebrier's other two symphonies on Naxos, it was no surprise to find this new recording of his first, whose amazing story we recounted in our blurb for the Guild historical release of its premiere performance last January. The other works range from the 1971 double bass concerto which includes a wordless chorus, jazz drummers and the soloist reading from Shelley's "Prometheus Unbound" (well, it was the 70s...) to last year's Western movie music, They Rode, written at great haste for an Indian film which was cancelled by a strike in the Bollywood industry (also with wordless chorus). Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Chorus; José Serebrier.
