Description: Kajanus' suite is a late, neo-classical work from 1931 with a third movement Menuetto and final Marcia which also recall the Grieg of the Holberg Suite; Launis' piece is also late - 1949/55 - and seems to revisit his folk-collecting youthful days in the north of Finland; Sikkola, a violist in the Helsinki Philharmonic for over 30 years, offers a 1950 Musica, generally good-natured but with an ostinato finale which manages to go from comical to sinister and a 1984 Tripartita, more internalized and intense, with echoes of Bartók and Shostakovich lurking in the background. St. Michel Strings; Erkki Palola (violin).
