MAX REGER (1873-1916): Complete String Trios and Piano Quartets, Vol. 1 - String Trio in A, Op. 77b, Piano Quartet in D Minor, Op. 113.

Description: Both works are rather ill-represented on CD at the moment, so nothing wrong with a new budget-priced recording. The huge piano quartet dates from 1910 (48 minutes here; 43 on the venerable 1972 Da Camera recording which we offered as part of the complete Reger chamber music special import box a few months ago) and is generally thought to be somewhat tongue-in-cheek in its highly emotional, overwrought personality and splashes of grotesque humor. The 1904 string trio, at the other end of the spectrum, is a light, refreshing piece in the spirit of early Viennese Romanticism. Aperto Piano Quartet.
