Catalogue Number: 09K037
Description: The Earl of Abingdon took over organizing the Bach-Abel Concerts in 1782 after the death of Johann Christian Bach and invited Haydn to London as early as 1783. This collection, unaccountably not being released by Naxos in the U.S., contains works which Haydn sent over to England in the years before he finally visited in 1791 as well as contemporary "light music" written by the Earl himself. In addition to the works listed above are 13 songs, six by Haydn and seven with no attribution. The varied instrumentation includes recorders, various types of flute, strings, square piano, harpsichord and guitar. No texts. Café Mozart (Windsor); Derek McCulloch (proprietor).
