JOHANN MELCHIOR MOLTER (1696-1765): Clarinet Concertos No. 1 in A, No. 2 in D, No. 3 in G, No. 4 in D & No. 5 in D.
Catalogue Number: 09J027
Label: Brilliant Classics
Description: Probably the earliest clarinet concertos written in northern Europe, Molter's first four date from c. 1747 and, while demonstrably for the clarinet as the scores tell us, they are quite in the style of the late baroque trumpet concerto, using only the upper, "clarion" register of the instrument. Dating from perhaps five or so years later, the fifth requires a three-keyed clarinet although all are performed here on modern instruments (both solo and orchestra). Henk de Graaf (clarinet), Amadeus Ensemble Rotterdam; Marien van Staalen.
