EDUARD BAGDASARIAN (1922-1987): 24 Preludes for Piano, Rhapsody in B Minor for Violin and Piano, Nocturne in A for Violin and Piano.
Catalogue Number: 08Q063
Label: Grand Piano
Description: Written in four sets of six in 1951, 1953, 1954 and 1958, the Preludes are in the "circle of fifths" configuration common for sets of pieces like this, thus in a broadly diatonic tonal formation but Bagdasarian constantly refers to Armenian modes which gives the whole cycle a restrained, exotic character. The 12-minute Rhapsody of 1958 is more emotionally Armenian in character and the five-minute Nocturne (1957) much less so, rather late Romantic in style. Mikael Ayrapetian (piano), Vladimir Sergeyev (violin).
