MUZIO CLEMENTI (1752-1832): Piano Concerto in C, 2 Symphonies, Op. 18.
Catalogue Number: 08Q030
Description: These works have been surprisingly ignored by an industry that's done a good job promoting other symphonies and concertos from the same period by Salieri, Paisiello, Dussek and others. Only two other recordings exist of the concerto and one of the symphonies (the Chandos Contemporaries of Mozart release of 20 years ago). The former is arguably an orchestration by Clementi himself of the piano sonata Op. 33/3, somewhere between Mozart and early Beethoven in style while the symphonies, the only complete symphonies extant by Clementi and published in England in 1787, are in the vein of middle-period Mozart - four movement works but short, in the 14-16 minute range. Bruno Canino (piano), Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma; Francesco La Vecchia.
