Description: King is likely to be unknown to the American collector but Englishmen of a certain (great) age will remember him as the leader of a light-music orchestra and a BBC broadcaster of light music (by him and by others) from the late 1920s to the mid 1960s. The pieces recorded here are both early and late (a couple written when King was in his 80s) and are classic examples of the genre, as the notes put it "melodious, undemanding to listen to but certainly not meretricioius". King also wrote serious music including an early piano concerto and Fantasy for Piano and Orchestra - just the thing for a Dutton Epoch recording, don't you think? Mark Bebbington (piano).
