Catalogue Number: 08P057

Label: Capriccio

Reference: C 5175

Format: CD

Price: $16.98

Description: Unlike Der ferne Klang above, this is the only available recording of Schreker's 1915-18 opera about a man with a magic lute which is able to find buried treasure and the woman-with-a-past who is acquiring the Queen's jewels (whose absence causes her to age) through murder. The setting is medieval but the music is as opulent and, in a Tristanesque love-scene, as feverish as one expects from this composer. Live recording. No libretto. Gabriele Schnaut (soprano), Josef Protschka, Peter Haage (tenors), Harald Stamm (bass), Siegmund Nimsgern (bass-baritone), Chorus of the Hamburg State Opera, Philharmonic State Orchestra; Gerd Albrecht. Original 1989 release.
